LET THE FAITHFUL IN!
On Saturday, August 20th, 2011, at the 49ers vs. Raiders Preseason game at Candlestick, a series of tragic events occurred in our beloved Stadium in San Francisco. I'm sure we have all heard by now all the tragic details regarding those that were hurt that day at Candlestick Park. What occurred that day was done by a few knuckleheads and is not representative of the vast majority of 49er fans and its tailgaters.
I applaud the 49ers for the increased Police presence, but some of the new policies that they are seen as a form of punishment towards the Faithful fans who have traditionally been at the parking lots early to tailgate.
According to the 49ers, they will only let people into the interior parking lot 4 hours prior to kickoff.

Basically, for a 1:15PM, we are usually inside the interior lot by 7:00AM to set up our tailgate area. With this new policy, we will not be able to enter the main lot until 9:15AM. That leaves a lot less time to cook, mingle with friends and family, etc... Usually by 9:15AM.. We have already served breakfast and are working on grilling our food for lunch prior to game time.
Those of you who have tailgated at Club 49 before or any other organized 49er tailgate party, know that it takes a while for us to set up all our gear, cook, and to put our gear away. We'll imagine having two less hours to do that.
In all honestly, this rule is going to hurt the Tailgate experience for many folks who have been used to tailgating the right way for many years. I have so many great experiences and have met a lot of outstanding people via tailgating at the 49ers games. And now, we are being punished for the unruly acts of a few people.
At the 49ers vs. Texans Preseason game on 08/27/2011, the SFPD and 49ers Security made a few 100 cars that were waiting in line to get into the interior lot leave the area about 20 minutes prior to opening the lot. It was chaos seeing all these vehicles being forced to go to the back streets and do circles around the stadium. It was ridiculous...
So back to the reason, why you are reading this still. Everyone who has tailgated with Club 49 or has tailgated at a 49er game period... We want you all to join us along with other 49er Booster Clubs to take action and let the 49ers know what we think about this.
We are urging you to contact the 49ers President/CEO Jed York and 49ers Vice President of Stadium Operations & Security Jim Mercurio via letter and/or phone call. The more people voice their opinion, the better. Hopefully the 49ers organization will listen to the fans. Below is the contact information for Jed and Jim.. Please spread the word and start writing those letters amigos y amigas. The regular Season is right around the corner.

UPDATE 9/10/11: After Speaking to Mr. Mercurio and Mr. Sakti from the 49ers Stadium/Security Operations, it seems like these rules will stay in effect for the duration of the 2011 season. They made it seem like their hands were forced to make these rules by NFL security office. The NFL has a "Best Practices" policy that they would like to get all stadiums to abide by. I feel that not only we should contact the 49ers, but the NFL as well in regards to this matter. For those of you who have written letters and called, WE THANK YOU.
We now ask that you take the extra step and let the NFL Commissioner, Roger Goodell and NFL Security Chief, Jeff Miller, know what we think of their "Best Practices"
